Etymology: Notoglanidium: Greek, noton = back + Greek, glanis = a fish that can eat the bait without touching the hook; a cat fish; diminutive (Ref. 45335).

Dorsal spines (total): 0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 22-24; Anal spines: 0. Diagnosis: elongate dwarf species, about 7-8 times as long as deep; occipital process scarcely developed and distinctly separated from nuchal plates; humeral spine well visible; eyes very small, round and positioned dorsally; fin-ray counts: dorsal: 22-24 (10-12 simple and 10-12 branched), pectorals 6 or 7, anal 4 or 5 simple and 7 or 8 branched (Ref. 57126).
