Etymology: Nettenchelys: Greek, netta = duck + Greek, enchelys, -yos = eel (Ref. 45335); dionisi: Named in honor of Gustavo Perez-Dionis in recognition of his contributions to the study of the Canary Island marine fauna.

Vertebrae: 132 - 165. Posterior nostril is located on the dorsal side of the head midway between the posterior margin of the eye and supratemporal commissure; presence of median row of large teeth in the anterior part of the vomer (Ref. 42678).
