Etymology: Notoglanidium: Greek, noton = back + Greek, glanis = a fish that can eat the bait without touching the hook; a cat fish; diminutive (Ref. 45335).

Dorsal spines (total): 2; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7; Anal soft rays: 10 - 13. Diagnosis: head and body moderately depressed (maximum body height 19-25% of SL)(Ref. 50225). Occipital process not reaching to first nuchal plate; mouth much larger than snout length (Ref. 57126). Snout broad (Ref. 50225). Width of premaxillary tooth plate 16.8-19.2% head length (Ref. 57126) / 22-27% HL (Ref. 50225). Eye small, positioned rather dorsally, its diameter less than 10% of head length; colour uniformly brown or marbled (Ref. 57126). Branchiostegal membranes completely fused; pelvic fin i, 5; anal fin iii-iv, 7-9; caudal fin 16-18 (Ref. 50225).
